Experience Norway’s most beautiful mountain valley, cascading waterfalls, roads tougher than Trollstigen and peaks raging 1800 metres above the fjord.

Natural hightlights

Sunndal is situated between two of Norway’s most famous mountain areas; Dovrefjell – Sunndalsfjella National Park and Trollheimen. Trollheimen, with the valley Innerdalen as a natural highlight, is a unique mountain area in many ways. Its location between different climatic zones creates distinctive geological conditions. The result is a great variety of landscapes and habitats, as well as a large diversity of plants and animals.

Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park is situated in the mountain area of Dovrefjell and the Sunndalen mountains, a natural meeting point of the counties Sør-Trøndelag, Møre og Romsdal and Oppland. Among the peaks, you will find more than 200 glaciers, lush mountain valleys, a myriad of mountain fishing lakes and several traces from earlier times. If you are lucky, you may also discover musk and wild reindeer in these areas.

The Kingdom of Waterfalls

Along the RV70 towards Oppdal, you can witness the grandeur of Vinnufossen, which originates from Vinnubreen, the largest glacier in Møre og Romsdal. Vinnu, the 6th tallest waterfall in the world, cascades down the mountainside in several stages, with a total drop of approximately 860 meters. The spectacular Vinnutrappa staircase brings you face-to-face with the waterfall.

Continuing along the RV70, you'll encounter Åmotan at Gjøra, the gateway to Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park. Here, marvel at this unique natural phenomenon, where five rivers converge, creating a mesmerizing spectacle amidst steep cliffs, moraines, and a diverse botanical richness. It's no wonder Åmotan is often referred to as Norway's Niagara.
